Ascension Health System has teamed up with tech-giant Google to store all of its data on the Google Cloud and to advance the technological future of its patients. According to a joint press release, the partnership deal (dubbed “Project Nightingale”) aims to “optimize the health and wellness of individuals and communities and deliver a comprehensive portfolio of digital capabilities that enhance the experience of Ascension consumers, patients, and clinical providers across the continuum of care.”
The press release goes on to say that the partnership will explore artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning applications that will deliver new care models, improve clinical quality and effectiveness, and increase patient safety, patient satisfaction, and provider satisfaction. Google will be mining the healthcare data in its cloud to develop their AI software, and Ascension will be transitioning to Google’s G Suite productivity and collaboration tools.
“Ascension is a leader at increasing patient access to care across all regions and backgrounds, particularly those in disadvantaged communities,” added Tariq Shakut, President of Google cloud. “We’re proud to partner with them on their digital transformation.” Shakut also stated that Google’s long-range plan is to “transform” the face of healthcare thru the cloud, data analytics and modern productivity tools, all aimed to ultimately reduce costs and save lives.
